TEAM BUILDING

Early in my Head Coaching career I learned that players want to spend time with their teammates and coaches outside of practice. It was here that I started the outreach "Win the Battle - Today". Every Friday my family has committed to providing our time and energies with young people. During the season we obviously are playing games on Friday. During the offseason our philosophy is to take one weekend night and have some healthy fun. Activities we have taken part in are: Dunk Hoop Basketball, Flag Football, Board Game Nights, Movie Nights, Youth Group Events, Bowling Night, Matroom Football, Dessert Film Night, or attend basketball games as a group. We always take a half time and talk about an issue while we eat food. Topics we have covered are: The dating game, comparison game, confidence game, challenge game, caring game, models of winning, character our best piece of equipment, total release, leadership, 212 degrees, stories, video stories, FCA stories and many more.

RAINBOW SIGNS

Rainbow signs have been a powerful bridge from our football program to whomever we send our best wishes too. We have sent them for medical issues, congratulations, sorrow and grief, and many more spontaneous events. We always have our ears open to the needs of others in our community. As the saying goes ... "When we cast the rock out into the water we watch the ripple effect impact many."

THE KARTER PLAY

Karter was a special needs student that played Prosser Football. We worked with Quincy Football to put this together. Karter loved it!

UNIT IDENTITY

Within our program we are always looking to create UNIT identities. We use EMA and then add the letter of the mascot onto the end. Every Man A ... Not only do we create an overall UNIT identity, but we create sub UNIT identities. Our OLINE calls themselves the FAT-NASTIES. Our Special Teams call themselves the OUTLAWS. Our Tight Ends call themselves TEL-TED. Our DLINE calls themselves the SACKNASTIES. We had 3 QB's that all played varsity and they called themselves the 3 Headed Monsters.

There is great power in these UNIT identities and we are always looking to teach / promote our players to play for something bigger than themselves. Plus the players have a lot of fun with the UNITS and it creates great memories they continue to talk about after their playing days are over.

GOALSETTING

Goalsetting is something we do every week starting in the preseason. These goalsets narrow our focus on little things we can do to keep on improving during the course of the season. It also models accountability and the ability to share with one another. When we correct our players in their performance we always talk to them about goalsetting that skill for improvement. We use 4x6 cards for goalsetting and players hang these cards in their lockers during the season.

OLYMPICS

Every preseason we put on TEAM OLYMPICS. These are fun games that we invite players, coaches, and families too. We use these games for team building, to get families involved, and to have some fun before the grind begins!

WEEKLY E-CARDS TO PLAYERS

Starting with the preseason during our weekly coaches meetings we take time to write players an encouragement note. When I was a player, one of my football coaches wrote me a note that I carried with me for many years. Many times players will thank us for what we write them and it's another way for us to show them we care about them and to encourage them as they travel on their journeys.
